Michael "Mikey" Lockart, from Oallan Ford, is continuing his assault on the Aussie motorcycle racing scene. Michael is in Year 9 at Braidwood Central School and his achievements are building on his successful 2009 season in the Juniors 80cc 2 stroke class. He has set a new lap records at Wakefield Park and Phillip Island and has won events at Winton Raceway in Victoria and Morgan Park Raceway in Queensland with his eyes set on the Master of Mallala in S.A. event to be held on November 21st. Being from the Goulburn district makes it even sweeter to hold the lap record at Wakefield Park.
Keep a look out for bike # 69. The remainder of the season has quite a few challenges ahead, with upcoming events in Queensland, NSW and Victoria as well as South Australia. Beating the lap record at Phillip Island earlier this year was "the ultimate" for Mike because the second and third placegetters were winners in the same class at Silverstone in the U.K.
After attending California Superbike School at Eastern Creek to refine his skills Mike has improved his position in the Road Racing series during 2010 to be currently in first place in both Victoria and Queensland.
At Superbike School Mike said "I just loved passing 1000cc bikes on my little Moriwaki/Honda 80 and giving them the shock of their lives. They just couldn't believe it".
Moving into 2011, Mikey hopes to move into the 600 Super Stock class of bike has put some feelers out with manufacturers.
Last weekend Mikey won 5 out of 5 races, putting himself well and truly in the lead for the Vic Road Race Championship. The next round is the 30th October where he is expected to seal the deal.
Mikey has a dedicated fan base, at the head of which are his parents Rainer and Tricia and "secret weapon" mechanic Frank Stevens. Also, sponsors are beginning to emerge, as Mike's talent is being realised on the track. He is still hoping to attract more supporters this year. If you are interested contact 02 4844 5577.
