Cheryl passes the tourism baton

24 Sep, 2009 11:51 AM
Monday's AGM of Braidwood Villages and Tourism said thank you to Cheryl Raper, who decided that it was time to pass the baton of the Presidency to a new generation of tourism supporters.

Cheryl had been the President of BVAT for 4 years and was the driving force behind lifting the public profile of Braidwood, its history, businesses and people. The achievements would be too many to list, from obtaining grants to organising publicity material and in general, tirelessly just being there at the forefront of Tourism, knocking on every door and representing businesses at Commonwealth, State and local government levels, wherever there was a chance that our town would benefit.

Her successes culminated in writing a successful submission that gave us the grant for the Kings Highway to Discovery project, a BVAT asset that had put the Kings Highway corridor on the tourist map.

Chery, in her final report, summarised what Braidwood Tourism is "BVAT, a Not for Profit Incorporated Organisation, with a positive community profile, a vibrant membership, up to 75 members to the end of July, a dedicated group of some 20 volunteers who man our Visitor Information Centre, pretty much 7 days a week, selling Braidwood to the tourists".

In closing her report, she said "I would like to thank all of the Committee, and the volunteers for their sterling effort throughout this and the last 4 years, and the Businesses of Braidwood for their support." Then the responsibilities for managing a budget of over $35,000, the Visitors Information Centre, the Kings Highway to Discovery web site and representing the interests of the 29 members who renewed their membership to date, were passed over to the newly elected Management Committee - Tracy Lamont President, Cheryl Hannah Vice-President, Margie Wallace Secretary/Treasurer, and Committee Members Chris Payne, Matt Hulse, Kate Mitchell and Diane West.
