Council busy with Plan, Budget and LEP

26 May, 2010 03:24 PM
Palerang Council continues with twice monthly meetings to consider the working draft of the new Local environment Plan, as well as placing the Draft Management Plan and Budget for 2010/11 on public exhibition.

Public meetings to discuss the proposed Management Plan will be held in Braidwood at 7pm on Tuesday, 8 June 2010, and in Bungendore 7pm on Thursday, 10 June.

The Plan outlines Council's objectives for the next five years including the draft budget for 2010/11. The Plan also includes details of the rates and annual charges Council proposes to levy in 2010/11 and the fees and charges proposed for the services it provides to the community.

Council welcomes submissions during the period of public exhibition. Submissions will need to be received by Thursday 17 June 2010.

Among the items discussed last week was agreement to establish an Out of School Hours Service (OOSH) at Captains Flat School. The 24 families at the school had raised $12,000 to help with the establishment of the service and predicted that they could run at a small profit.

Mayor Walter Raynolds noted that this was exactly the type of project for Federal Assistance Grants (FAGs). "FAGs are designed so that people in communities like Braidwood and Captains Flat can have a similar standard of living as any where else. That's why Palerang will get more from FAGS than other communities. The concept of a fair go for all communities' said Raynolds.

The Plan will be formally adopted by Council after consideration of submissions received at a Council meeting to be held on Thursday 24 June 2010.

Copies of the Plan are available for inspection at Council's offices in Bungendore and Braidwood and can be viewed on Council's website at www.palarang.nsw.gov.au
