The Braidwood Historical Society had recently purchased Dr Wilson's writing desk, which the women had jointly owned, and they were delighted that it will be housed in the Braidwood Museum collection. They generously donated other objects during their visit, including Mary Mowle's (Dr Wilson's daughter) photograph album featuring over a century of family photographs.
Another significant donation was Dr Wilson's personal copy of his 1934 published work 'Voyage Around the World,' with his handwritten inscriptions regarding bees, which he had introduced to Australia.
Further itmes include a wicker basket used to carry the family's babies home, inscribed with their names, and a writing box given by Mary Mowle given to her daughter in 1850 and numerous other documents, books and manuscripts.
The guests were given special mention at the Historical Society Annual Dinner held last Friday evening, where the desk was on display. The Historical Society Dinner was a great success, with a very good attendance, and an excellent, thought provoking talk by Roger McDonald, local resident and winner of the 2006 Miles Franklin Award, Australia's most prestigious literary prize.
