A new book by Peter C. Smith documents the historic bridle track of the Deua River. 'The Deua River Track' is intended to be the first in a series covering Pack Tracks and Bridle Tracks of South Eastern New South Wales.
Smith says "We have undertaken this project because we believe the best way to ensure the continued use and preservation of the tracks is by establishing their heritage value and recreational benefits."
The book has been published by Access for All Inc. and was partly funded via a grant from the Royal Australian Historical Society.
Access for All want to see our historic bridle tracks preserved so that they can be enjoyed by present and future generations. Riding the tracks offers great outdoor recreation experiences and preserves our historic links with our pioneering past.
"We are concerned about the creation of Wilderness Areas in our National Parks. Horse riding is not permitted in Wilderness Areas. Some track closures have already occurred" says Smith.
"It is the time to be heard before we become just 'a voice in the Wilderness."
The book is being sold as a fund raiser for Access for All and is available in selected outlets in Braidwood, Araluen and Moruya or direct from Access for All. The retail price is $22.
Peter C. Smith is also the author if "Tracking down the bushrangers" 1982.
'The Deua River Track' will be officially launched by Access for All Chairman, Gary Gowen, at the Braidwood Services Club at 12 o'clock on Saturday 29th August. All interested parties are welcome to attend.
