Monster Draw attracts biggest gathering this year

24 Sep, 2009 11:54 AM
The Braidwood Servicemen's Club and Palerang Financial Services Monster Draw drew more than 450 excited members to the Club on Friday night. The staff were kept busy keeping the customers happy as the largest crowd this year waited eagerly for the five draws from Stephen Hockey's large blue barrel.

The Jade Restaurant demonstrated its ability to cater for such a large crowd, providing delicious, spicy Chinese buffet and a'la carte for over 250 of the members.

As he drew the first ticket from the barrel, Allan Donnelly, Deputy Chair of Palerang Financial Services expressed his pleasure at being able to contribute to such a significant event in Braidwood's calendar. He paid a tribute to the people of Braidwood, pointing out that Palerang Financial Services could only make such contributions because of the outstanding support given to the local Bendigo Bank branch by a large number of the local population.

Allan's draw was very popular, with Ernie May, a long term club member and RSL sub branch supporter being the first winner. Ernie holds a Bendigo Bank account, so his prize was $2,250.00.

The next prize was drawn by Peter Camiller, President of the Braidwood Servicemen's Club. Peter welcomed all the members to the club for the evening and reminded them that the club was in the process of selling some land in order to secure its longevity and provide improved facilities for all. Participation in nights such as this will also go a long way to ensuring the club remains healthy for the whole community.

'Grizzly' Barrett will remember the evening for a very long while. With a time limit of 4 minutes to identify himself, Grizzly was in a hurry to get to the barrel once he realised he was a winner. Peter drew his ticket and later in the evening Craig Pettit drew his name again! As a Bendigo Bank account holder Grizzly was 'blown away' by winning two prizes, valued at $4,500.00 for the evening.

Rosheen O'Brien was also delighted to win $2, 250.00 when Shane Holness from Palerang Financial Services drew her ticket from the large blue barrel. The final winner for the evening, Marie Harris won $2,000.00 when Georgina Byrnes from the local Bendigo Bank branch drew her number.

In all, Braidwood Servicemen's Club and Palerang Financial Services distributed $10,750.00 to eligible club members.

'Grizzly' Barrett's luck was running very hot on Friday evening. His tickets were drawn twice, and he holds a Bendigo Bank account so Grizzly was presented with $4,500.00 by Allan Donnelly and Peter Camiler from Palerang Financial Services.
