A new exhibition space opened on Saturday. The 'Back Quarter Studio Gallery', up the laneway behind 139 Wallace Street opened with an exhibition of new work by photographer Kelly Sturgiss and ceramicist Gwenna Green, titled 'white.'
Kelly Sturgiss works with a variety of media and has exhibited at since the mid 1990's. Her response to 'white' results in a focus on architectural and domestic voids revealing only minimal evidence of human activity.
Gwenna Green has been a ceramic artist for a number of decades and her current approach to clay is pared back to basics. Her methods are simple yet deft, as she chases the tactile plasticity of the material. Gwenna's current exhibition reflects the age-old link between food and pottery. Awaiting the feast, the table setting hums with the promise of things to come.
Opening hours: after 11am Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
