BRAIDWOOD CATTLE SALE REPORT

12 Jun, 2006 11:09 AM
The Braidwood Associated Agents held their monthly cattle sale last Friday 2 June 2006 where they yarded 341cattle over the scales and 800 store cattle. Generally the cattle presented in forward store condition with a few prime cattle sprinkled through the sale.

Buyers from Bega, Bombala, Albury, Wagga Wagga, Goulburn, Bungendore, Queanbeyan, Moss Vale, Bathurst, Harden, Milton and the local Braidwood district, spent the day in quite wet, muddy and cold conditions which was a very welcome change from the dust. Friday certainly proved a lot of pundits incorrect who have been known to say "it's forgotten how to rain." Two leaking Drizabones and a wet bottom proved that theory wrong.

Store cattle met strong competition with Tim Raynolds & Co Pty Ltd offering 250 Angus and Black Baldy heifers (pregnancy tested in calf) selling to $770 and averaging $725. Martin Royds "Jillamatong" offered 24 Angus cows on their 2nd calf, they made $845 and were purchased by Chester and Smith, Bega. Mundango offered 24 Hereford cows, 2nd and 3rd calves (pregnancy tested in calf), they averaged $700. Steer weaners sold to $520; heifer weaners sold to $480; best cows and calves made $900.

Other quotes

Cows ranged from 55 cents/kg to 130 cents/kg

Steers ranged from 120 cents/kg to 208.5 cents/kg

Heifers ranged from 70 cents/kg to 206 cents/kg.
