Palerang Council has announced that a significant groundwater source has been located adjacent to the Currandooly Road. Consultant John Lee from Hydroilex has reported that abundant and good quality drinking water has been found some 7.5km from Bungendore off the Tarago Road.
Further tests are necessary to ascertain the viability of what Council Director Mr Ellison described as a "promising strike".
Concerns had been raised as to the supply of current and any future development in Bungendore, with its current drawdown from the aquifer reaching its limit.
The Public Meeting to discuss Bungendore Water, proposed to be held on 23 May has been cancelled to allow the completion of the test bores.
When results of the present study into the Butmaroo Creek aquifer are complete a new date will be considered. The tests should take some weeks.
