The Braidwood community came together on Wednesday evening to celebrate with local author Roger McDonald, his winning of the prestigious Miles Franklin Award for his book The Ballad of Desmond Kale.
Organised by the local paper The Braidwood Times, the event attracted around 100 people to the new RTC (Rural Transaction Centre) Library.
The Mayor of Palerang Jim Maclachlan presented the author with a certificate of congratulations for his win.
Roger spoke about the influence of the land in his work, and having grown up in rural NSW before signing copies of his book.
In recognition of the Roger's contribution to the artistic reputation of the town, Braidwood & Villages Tourism, Braidwood Regional Artists Group and the Chamber of Commerce all contributed to the evening.
