The Majors Creek Branch of the CWA held their 70th Birthday Luncheon and International Day at the Majors Creek Hall on Thursday 16th August 2006 with over 65 attending from various branches including Braidwood who with Majors Creek combined for the International Day. It was on September 1836 when at a meeting in the same hall the Majors Creek Branch of the CWA was formed. A table with memorabilia of the branch was on display.
As the country of study was Denmark the branch prepared a delicious luncheon of Danish style food. Guest Speaker Mrs.Bente Jensen from Braidwood gave a very interesting talk on the cultures of Denmark and of her experiences of growing up in that country. This was well received by all present.
Mrs. Alison O'Brien spoke of her close association with the branch over the years and spoke highly of the branch and the dedicated members both past and present making special mention of the late Agnes Cawthorne who held the position of Secretary for 36years until her passing in 1974.
A beautiful birthday cake was cut by Deirdre McDonald a member of the Majors Creek Branch for 40 years.
Branch President Marjory Lemin read out the history of the branch and thanked Bente and all for coming along and especially mentioned the work of the present secretary Linda Harrison and her devotion to that position.
