After five long years our new library is at last open. We cannot say moving 10,000 items, shelving, furniture, computers and all the paraphernalia needed to run a library, during drought breaking rainfall was pleasant, but everyone was thrilled to have the rain. A tremendous thank you to the outdoor staff, Erika and Karlene for their hard work.
Thanks also to Stephen Orford, Bruce Condell and all the tradesman for a wonderful facility for Braidwood and district. The CTC will be opening in the new building this week.
The Woodlands exhibition is currently on show and will be here in the library until the 21 June. These stunning photographs by Esther Beaton are a must see. Professor David Lindenmayer from the Centre for Resource and Environmental Studies at the ANU opened the exhibition and presented the library with a book titled "Woodlands – a disappearing landscape". The book is co written by David Lindenmayer, Mason Crane and Damian Michael with photographs by Esther Beaton.
On Thursday night 8 June at 7.30pm Dr Rebecca Montague-Drake of the Centre for Resource and Environmental Studies at the ANU will be giving a talk on Woodlands. Rebecca will begins by discussing "What is a Woodland" before turning to examine some of the animals that live in the woodlands of south-eastern Australia. The talk then examines the types of habitat found in woodlands. Following this brief introduction, Rebecca will discuss the findings of a major study being conducted by Professor Lindenmayer and his team. So come along! It will be an interesting and informative occasion. Tea and coffee will be available.
