The final touches can now be put into Braidwood's new community health centre thanks to a $20,000 contribution from the local Community Bank(r) branches.
Braidwood & Bungendore Community Bank(r) Branch will pay for painting, bathroom refurbishment, office soundproofing and a shelter at the new home of the Braidwood Multi-Purpose Service.
Community Bank(r) Chairman Noel Wisbey said it was the first major contribution for the community company, and one that the local board was proud of.
At the official handing over of the cheque last Wednesday, Peter Camiller, Co-Chair of the MPS Fundraising Committee thanked "Noel Wisbey and the Directors of the Community Bank for this most generous donation of $20,000 for the community health centre. This wonderful amount will enable us to complete hat will be a first rate community building and service."
"This is our community, this is our hospital, this is our bank and deserves our full support" he said.
"Our Braidwood branch opened in 2002 and Bungendore branch opened in 2006 and we have had great community support so far," Mr Wisbey said.
"While we have made small contributions to local community groups since then, this is our first chance to show just what a Community Bank(r) branch, with the support of its customers, can achieve," he said.
Mr Wisbey said the community had already made a gallant effort to re-build the community health centre, donating more than $47,000 and providing voluntary hours of labour, valued at more than $100,000.
"The centre offers so many services, like a playgroup, immunisation clinic, diabetes education, cancer support and access to specialists like a speech pathologist, youth councillor and dietician," he said.
"And it wasn't until a few years ago, when the building was closed due to asbestos removal, that its true value to our community was realised.
"Since then, local people have pitched in to bring this service back to life and as a Community Bank(r) board we wanted to do our part."
Mr Wisbey said with continued community support, community contributions like this would continue to grow.
"The community has shown tremendous support for our branch over the years and this contribution is, in part, recognition of that support," he said.
"Simply by banking with our branch, you can help our community prosper."
