It has been a busy year celebrating the Centenary of Federation and the final event for Tallaganda Shire will take place on the last day of 2001.
Thatís when a time capsule will be buried in Ryrie Park to be opened in 2101 when Australiaís federation will celebrate two hundred years.
What’s so special about the time capsule is that any shire resident can place items in it to be opened in 100 years time by their descendants.
So the contents of the capsule will be gifts to our descendants, people who are unlikely to meet us. We will be part of their past, their family’s history.
For $10 you can buy an envelope and place in it any items you would like to give to your descendants.
These items could be photographs, newspaper cuttings, diary pages, pieces of cloth, books in fact anything that is non-perishable and can be sealed in the envelope.
Each envelope will bear the name of those who placed material in it, then placed in a sealed metal box and buried in Ryrie Park. A large rock will be placed over the capsule with a plaque announcing when the capsule can be opened.
Several records of who placed envelopes in the capsule will be kept so that their descendants can be informed about the capsules opening in 2101.
Only the envelopes with their sealed contents will go into the capsule.
Envelopes are on sale at the Shire Office for $10 each. They must be returned by December 14 so they can be included in the capsule.
So it is best not to delay then youíll have a unique gift for your descendants in one hundred years time.
