A winning weekend at The Rec

A winning weekend at The Rec

16 Apr, 2008 03:00 AM
The rugby season started with a new look Redbacks side packed full of Braidwood youngsters, with 12 of last years premiership winning side having moved on.

We were facing Ulladulla, a side in a similar situation, rebuilding with lots of new faces. The game plan was simple. Keep hold of the ball, and when in doubt , run at them.

The first half was really scrappy rugby and to their credit, the Ulladulla players disrupted our ball all day, forcing mistakes at crucial times.

After a typical inspiring rant by Captain Coe, the lads strung more phases of play together and the tries eventually came as our forwards started to dominate. Final score 26 - 0

A big rap for Joel Bradley, Michael and Patrick Burke, and Toby Allen, all of whom played their first game.

A great effort by all the lads.

Next week the Redbacks play away at Bermagui, which will be a real test. Training at 6.30pm Thursdays at The Rec. All Welcome.

Our points went to 1 Joel, 2 Reece, and 3 Nick McGrath.

Well done to Marty and the Braidwood Bears on a fantastic start to their season by putting a cricket score past Harman.

And finally a few thankyous to Apex for the bbq at the game, to Pete Coble for touch judge and ground cleaning, to Amy for the bbq for the players and Northy and the Royal Mail for the beer!

Steve Northcott.
