Braidwood’s Citizen of the Year Midge Stalker was described as “an inspiration” by Braidwood’s Australia Day Ambassador Warwick Nowland. The two time World Endurance Champion Motorbike rider was obviously delighted to be presenting 101 year old Midge with the Australia Day Award and hearing of her decades of community activity.
Announcing the award at the Braidwood Services Club, the Mayor Cr Walter Raynolds said “This wonderful person regularly attends the hospital to visit the ill, is an active member of the St Bede's Catholic Church, the Hospital Auxiliary, the Braidwood CWA and for many years was the Patron of the Bowling Club. She is a truly remarkable person, who recently celebrated her 101st birthday. You would think that she would have put her feet up and relaxed by now, but not our winner. Last year, along with a few others, she helped compile the book "Braidwood Streets and Pioneers".
The Award for the Community Event of the Year in Braidwood was presented to
Gundillion Recreation Reserve Centenary Celebration" which was described as a “once-in-a-lifetime celebration that was 12 months in the making, bringing together community members both past and present. It was a celebration of friendship in an outlying community and was aimed at remembering the past, respectfully honouring those who have worked tirelessly for more than a century. The celebrations included a Children's Christmas picnic, a bush dance, a photographic exhibition and an audio presentation, family reunions and a church service. As well, the organising committee renovated the local hall, the tennis courts, and the local BBQ facilities. They launched their book 'Ballallaba to the Badja & Beyond', to mark the celebration.

Maddie is a talented young person and has participated in the St Andrews Church choir, volunteered at kindergarten and primary school concerts, special school assemblies and presentations, Braidwood's 'Got Talent' shows and Braidwood's ANZAC Day commemorations. She willingly gives her time to help others. She has been an inspiration to her peers and a mentor to other young people, encouraging them to join in.
To conclude the formalities Maddie led around 200 attendees in the National Anthem, which was followed by a bbq lunch in the new outdoor facilities of the Services Club
