Last Saturday saw the official opening of the new tennis court on the Majors Creek Recreation Ground followed by the Annual Children Christmas Party.
A large crowd gathered for the opening by Mr Steve Whan Member for Monaro. Other guests included Mr Paul Stephenson and Mr John Reynolds from Mulwarree Trust and Mrs Kylie Coe representing the Bendigo Bank.
Brian McDonald, on welcoming everyone gave a short history of the courts saying that they were officially opened on 14th August 1953, by the then member for Eden Monaro Hon JW Seiffert. A tournament was held over that weekend and present was Yvonne Day (Stuart) who played in the tournament.
The construction of the new court complete with a practice wall and basket ball hoop and new fencing was funded by Mulwarree Trust, Bendigo Bank, State and Federal Governments, Cortona Resources and the community of Majors Creek.
Following the opening of the Tennis Court a large crowd of children, parents, grandparents and residents gathered for the Annual Christmas Party. Following a small pageant and singing of carols Surfing Santa arrived in his Ute and Surf Board and distributed gifts and sweets to over 70 children. A delicious meal was then served which enjoyed by all present. Another great tradition alive in the village.
