150 years ago, thousands of miners, storekeepers, showgirls and thieves tried their luck at the rich seams of alluvial gold found in Majors Creek. Today, the peaceful village is home to gardeners, artists and musicians who have restored 19th century buildings and planted tranquil gardens.
Stroll through expansive gardens in and near the village, see the historic sights including the beautiful stone church, the famed pub and relics of mining days and hear thought-provoking talks from speakers including Jackie French.
BIG SCREEN FESTIVAL FOR TARAGO
In conjunction with and assisted by The Australian Film Commission the Tarago & District Progress Assn Inc. will be holding a Big Screen festival at The Tarago Town Hall.
On Friday 10 November, 10am, A film for district primary school students, "No Worries" - A family is forced off their farm due to drought, and move to Sydney. Free for students
Friday 10 November, 7.30pm; The classic movie "Road to Nhill" Adults $5, Children $3, Family $15.
Saturday 11 November, 7.30pm. "Ten Canoes" - Rated 'M'. Adults $5

200 6 TIDY TOWNS AWARDS
Braidwood has made it into the list of finalists for the Tidy Towns Awards. Assessors have completed their visits and reports, and a total of 64 New South Wales towns and cities have been selected as finalists in the 2006 Keep Australia Beautiful (NSW) Tidy Towns Awards.
Although notified of their status as finalists, the towns will have to wait until the Tidy Towns Awards celebrations in Singleton on the weekend of 3-5 November to find out the overall winner. Singleton, last year's Tidy Town of the Year, will host this year's announcements ceremony.
REMEMBERING PIP
St Bede's School has built a special memory wall for Pip Creasey. There will be small ceremony of dedication on Thursday 2nd Nov at 2.30pm.
CWA NEWS
Braidwood CWA held their annual general meeting on Friday 20th October. Chaired by Linda Mawbey, the meeting elected office bearers for 06/07. President Carol Hancock, Secretary Barbara Camiller, Treasurer Jean Cargill, bookings and cultural officer eve Gardner, Handcraft Pauline Duggan, Vice Presidents Betty Atkinson and Joan weston, Cooking Jean Barnes, International Officer Marie Stephenson, Publicity Officer Joan weston, Group Councillors Jean Cargill and Carol Hancock, environment officer Evonne Grant. The meeting was closed and and afternoon tea was served by our catering officer Telly Donalson. Kath Edwards won Secretary Of The Year Award for Southern Tablelands and Joan Weston 1st prize for International Doll for the Southern Tablelands.
