With the afternoon sea breeze cooling of the main day of the quilt event, there were still many visitors in town for the Sunday.
Enthusiastic support from many members of the community ensured that Braidwood was dressed with beautiful quilts up and ready by early morning for the big event on Saturday, November 25. While it was hot, the weather was kind and it was a great day for photography.
On the Friday evening a very successful Official Opening launched the twelfth Quilt Event. Guest speaker, Dijanne Cevaal from Gellibrand in Victoria, entertained guests with stories of her travels in the Middle East accompanying and curating an Australian quilt exhibition. The Indoor Competition/Exhibition prize winners were announced and as an added bonus the beautiful BRAG 2007 calendar was launched.
This year there were a record number of exhibitions. In addition to the National Theatre there were exhibitions in the Westbank Building, St Andrews Anglican and St Bedes Catholic churches and the Masonic Lodge. Five special quilt exhibitions travelled to Braidwood - two from Canberra, one from Sydney, one from Victoria and the special exhibition "Across Australia" which has just arrived home after travelling through the Middle East.
Success stories were the order of the day, both from businesses and not-for-profit organizations who were geared up to take advantage of the crowd for fund-raising activities.
Jenny Wallace's open garden featured poetry and music at 6 Malone Street, with more quilts on display, poetry and music and elegant food as a fundraiser for the local hospital. So far this event alone, raised $3000.10, surpassing its target aiming to buy a new physio table.
Quilt event organiser Jill McLeod said that "once again, Braidwood Quilters Inc. are beholden to the very many volunteers who gave unstintingly of their time and energy, not only over the weekend, but during the days and weeks of lead-up preparation. They would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank you all."
