The Braidwood Servicemen's Club Bears put paid to 6th placed Boorowa Rovers slim chance of making the semis with a resounding 46-6 win on Saturday at the Rec.
The Bears victory on Saturday moves the team into 3rd place with Bungendore's narrow loss to Harden and Binalong's 36-6 defeat of Exchange. Braidwood 4th win on the trot came from 9 tries to Boorowa's 1 and the Bears held a 18-6 lead at halftime. The win was sweet with the Bears copping a caning in the penalties 11-2 for the entire game but the ruthless defence Boorowa copped nullified any advantage they gained. Braidwood on the other hand capitalised with the ball in hand scoring their 9 tries from all over the field.
Mitch Turnbull and Jessie Harris tied for the Bruce Stuart Building Players Player Award. Turnbull worked tirelessly in defence and attack. He ran onto the ball strongly on the edge of the ruck making it over the advantage line with every touch. Harris made the most of his opportunities on the wing defending strongly as well. His try was a copy book wingers try, with him bursting onto the ball 50 metres out and showing the defence a clean pair of heels including the fullback who was beaten with sheer speed. Scotty Bakos turned in his best game for the Bears to date in the centres and picked up 2nd place. He constantly made good ground out wide, setup a top try for Matty McCarthy after racing 60 metres and turned Boorowa's attack back inside with strong defence. Darren Cook picked up the Coaches Award for his tradesmen like display on the left wing. Cooky scored a top finishing wingers try and came in and gave his forwards a spell in attack as well.
Coach Newsome was pleased with the Bears performance in such an important match. The form displayed by all the Bears with only 2 games and a bye before the semis gives him much confidence that they can have a good crack at their first ever Premiership. Playmaker Paul Stuart imminent return against 2nd placed Binalong next Saturday bolsters the Bears after an ankle injury has kept him out since round 2.The Bears are confident of avenging their first round narrow loss at the hands of the Brahmans but they will need all your support next Saturday at the Rec which will be their last home game for the season. As well the Bears are calling on all old Bears to come out of hibernation and have a great arvo and night at the Rec and the Club celebrating and supporting this years Bears efforts .Game Day Sponsor for next Saturday's 2.30 crucial match is Raynolds' Logging Transport.
