Saturday June 30 was a big night for our local Lions Club with their 36th changeover dinner.
The occasion saw the re-installation of Rodney Grant as President for a second year, changeover of officer bearers and induction of new Lion Lindsay Wallace.
The changeover dinner was held at the Braidwood Servicemen’s Club and catered by Kerry’s Chinese Restaurant.
Attending the dinner were John Bunn, President Braidwood Servicemen’s Club; Jim Sturgiss, representing the Shire Council; Darren (Daryl to some) Rowley, representing Apex; and John Lyneham, representing Bateman’s Bay Lions Club.
Lions have played an important part in the Braidwood community from as far back as 1966 with the Charter President Lion Bill Marshall. However, more recently and in particular during the last 12 months Lions have contributed 920 hours in community service and raised over $3200.
This money has been used to support many community activities - Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner, Hospital and SES Auxiliaries, Junior Bowls, St Bede’s School, Braidwood Central School, The Guide Dog Association, Diabetes Australia and Kids Cancer Appeal to name a few.
In addition to fund raising Lions members devote a lot of their time and other resources to supporting the community with thanks to Jim Moore, Keith Osmond and Gordon Stephen. There are also many others who support Lions who deserve special thanks - John Lamont, Dennis Hoskins, Bev Wisby and the Braidwood Apex Club.
In the near future the Braidwood Lions Club will be embarking on a new fund raising activity to raise money to assist the Braidwood Hospital.
Lions is purchasing, with assistance from the Braidwood Servicemen’s Club, a 12-foot ‘tinnie’ for raffle. The boat is equipped with 8hp outboard, safety equipment, trailer and rods -just right for those fishing enthusiasts.
Your support in this fund raising is encouraged.
The President of Braidwood Lions Club would like to extend a warm thank you to those who support the Club’s members and activities.
PS: Congratulation to Keith Harrison, winner of the 200 Club.
