The old maternity hospital in Elrington Street is bringing some old treasures to life with the opening of a new collectables store, Born Vintage.

Julia Billington has been carefully preparing the building for the shop over the last year, whilst retaining some of the layers of history embodied in the décor of the building. On removing old carpet, Billington found some well preserved 1940s linoleum in several rooms, and has left the period wallpapers in place.

Each room has a well set out selection of collectables from vintage records and books to clothing, furniture, lamps and tableware. The shop is open 10 am to 5pm Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday.

The old maternity hospital was operation from the 1860s by Anne Gardiner, sister of the Clarke brothers bushrangers.
