Recently the Braidwood Central School Show Team participated in the Royal Canberra Show and the Bungendore Show. In Canberra they were a team among 220 competitors from 20 schools, both public and private, as far as Tasmania and Dubbo. The students of Braidwood stole the show. Receiving eight places including two firsts.
The jewel in the crown of Braidwood's success was in the Junior Judging. Here Braidwood dominated the competition taking 1 in every four ribbons. Luke Staunton and Andrew Callan, victors of the day, taking a first place each. Leith Collard, Gary Moxon, Daniel Ison, Samantha Callan and Troy Harrison also received ribbons for respective positions. Braidwood also found success in exhibiting their beasts. Samantha Callan took out 2nd in the 14yrs Junior Paraders, and Kris Anderson was Highly Commended in the 13yrs Junior Paraders.
Following the success of the students the Braidwood Carcases didn't go unnoticed. The Lightweight Steer donated by Bill Waterhouse was awarded 1st Champion Leightweight Carcase. The Heavyweight Steer donated by Dr Tony Cairns of Rainbow Square Meats received 4th best carcase of the day.
Prior to the Canberra Show the same group of prize steers, handled by students of Braidwood, were awarded Grand Champion (donated by Ellendee Square Meaters and Reserve Champion (donated by Rainbow Square Meaters) at The Bungendore Show.
The Braidwood Central School Show Team have entered the two brothers of the same two steers in the Sydney Royal Easter Show. The students and their teacher, Mick Wall, are in preparation for the event – best of luck. Before competing in Sydney the students will be taking the steers to The Braidwood Show. Here they will be compete against a steer donated by Rainbow Square Meaters to be raffled - proceeds will go to the MPS Centre.
