Bush Fire Danger Season

26 Sep, 2001 07:49 AM
The Bush Fire Danger Season is due to commence on October 1 of this year and will remain in force until March 31 2002.

During this period land owners/occupiers will need a permit to burn off. The permit may be obtained by contacting the Captain of your local Rural Fire Brigade. It may be at least 48 hours from the time of application before a permit is issued. Captains are required to conduct an inspection of the proposed burn area and as a result of this, various conditions may be attached to the permit. You must notify your neighbours at least 24 hours before you light any fire, and this also applies out of the Bush Fire Danger Season. Having lit a fire you must make sure that someone is in attendance all the time the fire is alight. All conditions of the permit must be observed. On days of extreme fire danger, caused by a combination of certain weather conditions and dry vegetation a Total Fire Ban being declared. During a day of Total Fire Ban, no fire may be lit in the open. Accordingly a permit is cancelled in such circumstances.

If you have any enquiries you should ring Fire Control on 4842 2516.
