This weekend the shop/design studio birdhouse, owned by Tracey Lamont and Ann Lightfoot on Duncan St has been in operation for one year. The studio has worked hard at designing, presenting and selling their range.
"We have had a good year with people discovering us, and returning to buy our gear and to see what new and interesting things we gave sourced for the shop" said Ann.. Bird is now stocked in selected boutiques including 'Sirens' at the Bay, ‘Elvis for Cleo' in Newtown, Sydney and ‘The Dept of the Exterior' in Manuka ACT.
"Last year we launched our summer range with a Parade at the Hippo Bar in Civic. It was our first parade and organising models and getting it all together was quite a task but we got there and it was great," said Ann.
Living in Braidwood is not the usual place someone would chose to start a fashion label. It has its challenges especially in relation to finding raw materials such as fabric. Ann said "We have to make sure we get up to Sydney or down to Melbourne just to see what's going on in the fashion world. Generally we just want to go and get a city fix."
"Even though we keep an eye on trends we tend to do our own stuff and don't worry too much about what others are doing. Our style is casual, urban in the sense that it's for everyday. We place a large emphasis on quality and original ideas."
To celebrate the girls are having a huge sale on the 14th and 15th of Feb. As well as the sale, Ann and Tracey are launching their new web-site called www.birddesign.com.au. The site shows the current summer range of Tee's and will be updated with new products on a regular Basis. Tracey and Ann designed the site with a huge amount of help from Garry Quattromini who built and fine tuned the site.
The next range will be ‘winter 06' and will consist of long sleeve tee's, fabric bags and belly belts, (you will have to wait to see what they are), all hand printed and designed by the girls in Braidwood.
Ann said "We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported birdHOUSE and the development of our label bird. Drop in for champagne on Saturday afternoon at the shop and check out the sale."
