Butlers back in Braidwood

Five Australian Butler School students attended training sessions in Braidwood last week as part of their international Butler course, focused this month on Government House in Canberra and at Admiralty House in Sydney. Students are trained in history, maintenance and restoration of antiques by Antony Davies at Tidmarsh. Butlers are often required to manage collections of valuable furniture and artwork in the course of their employment. While at Tidmarsh they undertake practical lessons in French polishing, cabinetwork and use of traditional furniture oils and waxes. Other classes include study of silver, glass and ceramics, professional car detailing and inventory techniques used to manage contents of a large household. The Braidwood component of the Australian Butler School course this month was featured on the ABC program Stateline (ACT), showing again on ABC 2 this Thursday, and photographers also attended from the Australia Financial Review for a feature article to be published in the AFR magazine in late August.
