A social/community plan examines the needs of the local community, including groups that may be disadvantaged in some way and formulates access or equity activities that council and/or other agencies could implement to address identified need. Target groups include: Children 0-11, Young People 12-24, Women, Older People, People with Disabilities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People, and People from Culturally and Linguistically diverse Backgrounds. Access and equity activities are any activities that aim to promote social justice and enhance community well-being. They include; a councils social/community welfare, health, cultural and recreation activities as well as the access and equity aspects of other council activities such as providing infrastructure and services, planning and regulatory activities and providing information.

Examples of community initiatives that could be included are enhancement of community halls, improvement of recreational facilities, walking trails , environmental rehabilitation projects, youth development projects etc;

Though Council has very limited financial resources at the moment to support the plan, inclusion of specific initiatives in the plan would be very advantageous to community groups when seeking either State or Federal government grants.

Once the first draft of the plan has been completed it will be available for community comment as well as discussed at community meetings in Bungendore and Braidwood.
