Brendan Clarke was recently awarded a Rotary Club of Sydney/Soukup Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship will support Brendan’s studies in an Apprenticeship in Carpentry at TAFE this year.
The Rotary Club of Sydney/Soukup Memorial Scholarship supports young Australians undertaking or proposing to undertake further education or training at recognised universities, TAFE or private colleges in Australia.
The opportunity for Brendan to apply for the Rotary Scholarship was made possible by the Braidwood and District Education Foundation, which is a member of the Country Education Foundation of Australia (CEFA). Through CEFA’s relationship with the Rotary Club of Sydney, the Braidwood and District Education Foundation and CEFA’s other 41 local committees are encouraged to promote the Rotary Scholarship within their local region. Applications are then presented to the Rotary Club of Sydney selection panel for them decide on their recipients for the coming academic year.
Brendan was one of the fourth-year of recipients to be awarded this Scholarship. Students from CEFA communities within rural and regional areas of Australia have been receiving Rotary Scholarships since 2009 and members of the Rotary Club of Sydney are consistently impressed with the high calibre of CEFA applicants and the commitment with which they approach their study and training goals.
Annabel Gay, CEO of CEFA, said of the Scholarship, “The costs of young Australians in rural and regional areas accessing further education and vocation opportunities, as compared to their metropolitan counterparts, are substantial and can often be prohibitive. Brendan receiving a Rotary Club of Sydney/Soukup Memorial Scholarship will be a welcome relief to the financial burden of post high school education and a timely message of support and encouragement. We are very proud of Brendan and look forward to following his progress as he pursues his aspirations.
