Community Bank to distribute dividend

07 Dec, 2006 12:39 PM
Warm praise was the order of the day at the AGM of the Community Bank held at the Braidwood Servicemen's Club last Thursday the 30th of November.

Chairman Noel Wisby paid tribute to the two retiring directors Wally McLeod and Mark Horan both of whom had been on the Board since the Banks formation and indeed were members of the original steering committee who had the vision to bring Braidwood its Branch of the Bendigo Community Bank.

From that point in the meeting it was all "Good News". To open the Bungendore branch the bank had raised over $550,000.00 mainly from Bungendore residents. Braidwood branch is growing at a steady rate and Bungendore quite strongly. If growth and trading continue as expected the company will distribute $50,000.00 to shareholders by way of dividend next July. The chairman thanked the original shareholders for their patience and support in waiting for a return on their investment but explained that greater strength of the two branches will benefit the entire Palerang community.

Mr. Wisby thanked the Bank Manager Craig Pettit for his work during the year. Craig now leads a team of 10 at two locations. Craig in turn echoed thanks to the staff whose efforts and friendly efficient service is adding to the Banks success and thanked the Board for its support and guidance

Although the company as a whole trades in profit the figures will improve as the expenses of the new branch are absorbed and as it grows towards a profitable trading level.

"It's a big ask "said Craig but I am hoping that the Banks trading will reach $100 million by next July.

In announcing the dividend to shareholders Mr. Wisby further pointed out that the Company was also looking for projects for the Bank to support The bank does not wish to take over from or replace any fundraising group; the bank wishes to help projects that are community based have wide support and benefits. Projects can be either small or large the bank is very interested in helping groups that are actively seeking grants. The bank could be used to augment your Community input to increase the size of the grant. The bank may at some time have its own projects but does not seek to take over or run your project. The bank wants a better outcome from your efforts. If you have a project under way in Braidwood contact Director Doug Smith.
