Palerang Council has decided to defer discussions of the fate of OOSH, the CTC and Westpac branch until the next Braidwood meeting when a more comprehensive report could be presented.
Cr Hart questioned why "these issues being dealt with in Bungendore?" and added later that there "seems to be a little division in this Council by those who want to get re-elected and those who don't."
Cr Raynolds said "This is the worst, meanest recommendation that I have ever seen. It is completely against Braidwood. These things must be discussed in the context of the budget. I've never been so disappointed to read a recommendation in all my time on Council " he said.
Cr Bransdon argued that the Braidwood services were "very discriminatory" and that they completely wiped out a families rates. "I won't be looking for votes from people who send their children to OOSH" he added.
Cr Raynold's said that the money for these services came from Federal Assistance Grants, not ratepayer funds, and this was the proper use of the money.
Cr Harrex said that he would "fight tooth and nail over" keeping OOSH.
The General Manager said that the report was not saying that the services should be closed but that Council should discuss ways of alternative funding. "Perhaps we could cut out afternoon tea for the kids" he said.
On the night the Council also decided to apply to the Minister to get another Special Variation on the rates of 9.9%, and not to extend the timeframe for the new LEP, a process which was described as 'frustrating', 'woeful' and 'like watching paint dry.'
