Debaters shine in ACT finals

04 Sep, 2008 04:54 PM
Gabriel Dickinson won Best Debater in the series and Michael Ison had received an Honourable Mention.

The grand final topic wasn't an easy one, Braidwood had to prove that all illegal immigrants ought to be held in mandatory detention. The team, consisting of Kodie Woodbridge, Gavin Whitehouse, Michael and Gabriel defended very well but were unable to fend off Radford College who won a very close debate on a split decision. "I've seen a lot of debates in the last 3 years and I can honestly say, this group of debaters have been truly stunning: they work hard, speak well and win and lose with humility. I am very proud of them", said Jonathan Millar, the BCS debating coach."

Michael and Gabriel have also won places in the 2009 ACT state team reserved for the top 8 debaters in the territory.
