Festival welcomes grant funding

06 Feb, 2009 09:58 AM
While the Two Fires Festival's core purpose is to celebrate the art and activism of Australia's well-known poet and environmentalist, Judith Wright, and to build her legacy, it aims to establish a niche in Australia's cultural landscape and to foster economic growth by creating a positive environment for business through the presentation of a number of forums

The Environment Forum will explore the relatively new concept of "Transition Towns" and will address the issues of the peak in global oil production before terminal decline and climate change. Informed speakers will lead discussion and conduct a practical workshop to assist the local community to begin the twelve steps to embarking on the transition journey from dependence on Peak oil.

The very important Poetry and Literature component of the 2009 Festival will draw local and national poets and writers to Braidwood to discuss the issues that concern us. The promotion of local writers and poets has a strong impact on the economic viability of the town as it becomes a destination for tourists to experience the cultural diversity of this rural community.

More information about these two festival streams to come. In the meantime, keep up to date by visiting www.twofiresfestival.org which is being continually updated with the latest festival news.
