The Donormobile is a state-of-the-art self contained blood collection unit and is in Braidwood this week. It is the Australian Red Cross Blood Service (ARCBS) first visit to Braidwood, and the service was officially launched by Gary Nairn MP Federal Member for Eden Monaro and Steve Whan MLA State Member for Monaro, on Monday morning as the inaugural donors for the visit.
The Braidwood visit aims to collect more than 200 lifesaving donations from people in the Braidwood and Palerang Regions.
"The Australian Red Cross Blood Service (ARCBS) is delighted to be able to provide convenient blood collection locations to people wishing to give blood." said Mr Colin Webster, Regional Manager for the area.
"The Braidwood site allows the ARCBS to offer, for the first time, a convenient location for the 11,000 residents in the Braidwood region who wish to give blood"
"We need the support of the Community of Braidwood to keep this a viable collection site." said Mr Webster.
"The ARCBS recognises the need to provide a range of convenient locations for those people wishing to donate blood and we are committed to decentralising our services where operationally possible, and spreading them further into the community."
"We would like to thank Steven Hockey, APEX Braidwood, Steve Whan MLA, Gary Nairn MP and others in the community for their support and assistance in making this visit possible." said Mr Webster.
The Donormobile needs to collect over 200 donations each week. One in three people will need blood during their lifetime but only one in thirty people currently donate blood.
