 Grease is the word...

Grease is the word...

27 Aug, 2010 01:10 PM
It may be mid winter in Braidwood, but nearly 1000 people came out last week to see 'Summer Lovin' realised, and Sandy and Danny kiss, in Braidwood Central School's production of Grease at the National Theatre.

With an extended stage, a VW Beetle custom convert complete with dance platform, a clever set with electronic backdrops and a cast and crew of over 70 people it was a show not to be missed. There was great acting, singing and dancing by students from year 5 through to year 10 and they looked brilliant in fabulous costumes.

"Grease recreates the language, life and loves of teenagers. It is a fun and furious romp with great songs and a fantastic script. Braidwood Central School's teenagers took to the scripts like ducks to water," Director, Jonathan Millar said.

"A large number of the secondary cast have been following the English/Drama stream for a number of years, they have come from Bungendore, Captain's Flat, Braidwood and the outlying regions."

"There are so many thank-yous to be made, starting with Kevin Corby who built the stage furniture and the stage extension, Natalie Densley, Sue Irving and Fran Ifould who did a lot of painting, Mary Appleby who managed the wardrobe, David Jones who went above and beyond in sourcing a myriad of props, George Snodgrass, Dave Sargent and David Parsons who found the car and brought it to life, and of course a large number of staff at BCS who went above and beyond to ensure that the talented young people of BCS had a terrific learning experience."

"Grease was a truly community event with many businesses and organisations donating props, raffle prizes and money. BCS thanks every one of them. We are truly lucky to live in a town that so passionately supports its young people as they pursue their creative endeavours. "

"At the end of the day however, it is the young people themselves we need to thank. Through their dedication and commitment to the show they gave us a great night out and reminded us that despite all the challenges each of us face in life, it is possible to overcome and get up in front of a packed house and produce quality entertainment that makes people laugh, jive and cry."

"On behalf of Braidwood Central School and this great community I would like to thank all the cast listed below for their fabulous efforts. You were truly magnificent," Jonathan Millar concluded.

Grease has really brought the Braidwood community together. It is so great to walk the streets and get congratulated on how well it was and how much people enjoyed it. It really needs to be said that everybody who helped out even the tiniest bit have done such a good job. All of the cast agree that without the Braidwood community support it would not have been the show it was. Mr. Jonathan Millar was the greatest director and I can't begin to thank him enough for all of the effort he put into it and the opportunity he gave me. It's hard to comprehend how massive the support was for Grease and we are all so greatful... seriously! thankyou all!!!
