Braidwood Central School Show team students in the last year have, selected, broken and prepared cattle and sheep for the school.
The cattle were very generously donated to the school by Tony Cairns, Rainbow Square Meaters, who donated 3 beasts, and Ron Hannan, Koolewong Angus, who donated a steer, and the other cattle were bred by the school.
On the 24th of February, 20 Braidwood Central School students travelled to the Royal Canberra Show. They took six cattle and seven sheep to the show and were extremely competitive.
Braidwood’s “Marcus” took out the first in his class in the cattle lead steer competition and then went on to win reserve champion.
“Doug’, the Braidwood Hospital Raffle steer, also did very well, coming first in the purebred steer class. All the other cattle went very well in their classes.
In the sheep “Jack” the ram went really well in the schools class, where he came third. And two ewes “Ally” and “Dot” came fourth and fifth. The other sheep also did very well compared to the other schools.
In the Junior Merino Judging class, Shae Saddler came 5th and also made it into the finals of junior sheep handling along with Lauren Turner.
Forbes Corby won 3rd in his junior cattle judging class (13 years) with Alice McDougal coming 5th. In the 15 years junior judging Helen De Costa came 3rd and Lauren Turner came 4th.
In Junior Cattle Paraders Inga Neilsen came 5th in the Under 13’s class. Millie McInnes 3rd, Rosie Harris 4th, Brooke West 5th and Maddy Stoyles got an Encouragement award in the Under 16’s class.
In the Under 15’s class Tim Callan also won an Encouragement Award.
In the Open Junior Paraders Helen DeCosta came 3rd in the under 15’s and Grant Bullock came 2nd in the under 16’s.
The sheep at Braidwood Show did extremely well winning many prizes along with the cattle.
In Paraders at Braidwood, Helen De Costa won her heat in her age group with Rosie Harris coming 2nd, and Todd Collett 3rd. In the other heat Tim Callan came 1st with Lauren Turner coming 2nd, and Victoria Laurie 3rd. Tim later went on to win reserve Champion Parader.
In Junior Cattle Judging, Rosie Harris came 1st, Lauren Turner 2nd and Tim Callan 3rd.
