For Cory Pont and Daniel McPherson, Braidwood Central School students, to be included in the list of scholarship recipients is a great honour. The students were accompanied by their families, Careers adviser at BCS Rob Martin and Braidwood District Education Foundation representative Martin Pitt.
Martin was instrumental in establishing the initial contact with Greater Good Executive Officer Diane Kargas as part of his work with the Braidwood Foundation.
GreaterGood is a perpetual foundation established to help fund and provide ongoing support for charitable activities that strengthen the Capital region and its community.
Michael Milton, Australia's fastest skier and a Champion for GreaterGood, officially launched the Foundation. Michael, a world famous Paralympian, is just back in Australia after walking the Kokoda Trail.
The Hon. Margaret Reid, AO, GreaterGood Foundation Chair, welcomed over 100 eminent business and community leaders from Canberra and the Capital Region, including the Shire Council Mayors of Palarang, Cootamundra, Snowy River, Cooma Monaro and Queanbeyan.
Ms Reid explained: "The Foundation's objective is to provide a cost effective way for individuals, families, corporations and businesses to carry out their altruistic aims. The Foundation now has just over $2.4m in funds accumulating, with 16 personal and family trusts established, and a number of wills executed with GreaterGood as a beneficiary."
Following the formal presentation the recipients were photographed with Michael Milton and this appeared in Wednesdays Canberra Times. As a special trear for the Braidwood boys Ron De Castella agreed to a photograph opportunity with the boys and then spent a deal of time chatting about their futures.
The Greater Good Scholarships will be used to cover most of the costs of an Outward Bound navigation Course to be held in the high country starting on 6th December.
"We eagerly anticipate the reports of this once in a lifetime experience and hope they will be pioneers for future Braidwood Central School students seeking to expand their career horizons" said Rob Martin.
