Hazy days as Budawang fire smoulders

Hazy days as Budawang fire smoulders

06 Feb, 2009 09:57 AM
The helicopter base at Braidwood Recreation Ground was servicing four helicopters on Tuesday, but had had up to nine during last week. An alternative helicopter base had been established within the fireground in recent days.

On Monday night spectacular lightning strikes and some rain was recorded in the district but little appeared to have fallen over the fire area. The rain however contributed to poor visibility on Tuesday morning for aerial firefighting. For the past few days firefighters were bring winched into hotspots that had been detected with thermal imaging equipment around the fire perimeter to east and west.

Motorists continue to be warned about visibility on the Kings Highway. Regular updates on the fire situation can be found at http://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au
