 Humans to take to arena

Humans to take to arena

12 Mar, 2008 03:00 AM
With horses not represented in the ring events at the Braidwood Show this Saturday, the committee has come up with lots of new activities including human participation events for spectators and competitors.

An exhibition match of the sport of flyball will start at 10am when the Belconnen Bullets and the Tuggeranong Torpedoes to battle it out in the ring.

Flyball is a race between two teams of four dogs and they jump 4 sets of hurdles, trip a flyball box pedal, catch a ball and return over the four hurdles.

The two teams contest 5 heats per game and as with football there are dogs that come off the bench as replacements. Our teams were the stars of the Royal Canberra Show.

For locals, there is an event for everyone. The human ring events start from 1.30pm with youth events, including age grouped 50 and 100 metre dashes, culminating in an open 100 metre dash for all comers.

There will also be lots of good old fashioned fun with three legged races, Egg and spoon races, Sack races, Toss the gum boot, Passing the footy, Dog and Master wall climbing, Tug-o-war, Baled hay stacking, Nail driving-over at the wood chop area, and Whip cracking. There are prizes for the events, and if you don't want to participate, there could be some good spectator comedy produced in the ring.

The Grand Parade with Miss Show Girl & Miss Junior Show Girl will be on at 1pm

As well as the ring events, the Pavilion will be teeming with local produce and creativity.

The dog show returns this year as well as the poultry section with domestic and special chooks and water fowl. Shearing comps run all day, as do chain saw races. Then there are the excellent cattle and sheep displays and judging and the sheep counting competition.

Coffee outlets, food stalls, gardening requirements, machinery, kids stuff and more will be 'on show.' Side Show Alley will see the latest gear coming on from Royal Canberra along with a Climbing Wall and the very popular Snake Man. For the very young there'll be a mini zoo of child friendly animals for up close and personal study. To wind up The Cosh Band will play from 3pm.
