Jolly Good Show

17 Apr, 2009 02:26 PM
One of BRAG's strengths is that its membership ranges from internationally acclaimed practitioners to devotees practising in their spare time and everything in between. Whether because of or despite this diversity the standard of work on show was very high.

BRAG's President, Gill Burke, welcomed everyone. She drew attention to two missing entrants whose work at previous BRAG exhibitions had always been outstanding. One was Solvig Baas Becking - a founder member and BRAG's Patron, whose ill-health prevented her participating. The other was Cristoph Altenburg - whose death was still mourned by all his many friends.

The Exhibition was formally opened by Elizabeth Brown, Regional Arts Development Officer for Southern Tablelands Arts. Ms Brown commented on the fine work and especially on the way the exhibition was hung. Although the range was eclectic - with paintings, sculptures, ceramics, jewellery, glass and textiles, there was an underlying coherence. The appearance was like a fully curated show. She congratulated the Hanging Sub-Committee on their ability and the exhibitors on their entries.
