Kelly takes lead into Saturday's poll

18 Aug, 2010 01:23 PM
If the bookies and pollsters are correct the ALPs Dr Mike Kelly looks set to hold onto the Federal electorate of Eden Monaro at this Saturday's Federal election, although with a margin of just 2.3% at the 2007 election the candidates will be fighting right up to the wire for the bellwether seat.

Eden-Monaro covers an area of approximately 29,499 sq km from Queanbeyan to South Durras in the north, south to the Victorian border, extending to the southern and eastern borders of the Australian Capital Territory.

Kelly's main contender is Liberal David Gazard, a former Liberal party staffer, and Greens candidate Catherine Moore, a Palerang Councillor, will have key preferences in the final outcome.

The other candidates are Ray Buckley (Independent), Olga Quilty (Liberal Democrats), Ursula Bennett (Christian Democrats), Frank Fragiacomo (Independent) and Tom Gradwell (Family First).

More election news page 2 and further candidates' statements are on page 3 of this week's paper.
