Kings Highway coast holiday crawl

17 Apr, 2009 02:24 PM
On Monday a five car pile-up 1km east of Braidwood slowed the already thick traffic as wet weather prompted holiday makers to return early to Canberra.

The NSW holiday road toll rose to five by Monday and drivers were reminded that the NSW Police's "Operation Tortoise" had double demerit points in place for all speeding, helmet and seatbelt offences.

On Day Four of Operation Tortoise 45,760 breath tests were conducted and 97 people charged with drink driving offences.

Police issued 1,711 traffic infringement notices as well as 1,007 speed infringement notices during Day Four. There were 90 reported crashes with 19 people injured.
