Murray (Robbo) Robertson and his father Ian are finishing up their contract with the NRMA this Friday after a 48 year family association.

While Murray has been a Braidwood landmark for decades, with his classic 1971 Falcon ute, his father Ian, who will be 90 in February, and still works daily in the garage, started out as a mechanic in 1932. Ian came to Braidwood in 1946 and worked in the present location of the business, then in 1949 moved to the garage that was next to Braidwood Real Estate.

Ian then bought the mechanical business across the road where Bernadoff's now is in 1958, and in 1962 moved across the street to the current location of D & M Motors.

Since Murray's brother David died in a tragic accident 4 1/2 years ago. Murray has been on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Well known to drivers from the ACT and Eurobodalla alike, the Robertson boys have been a welcome face arriving on the highway to rescue stranded vehicles and assist with traffic accidents, the Robbo's have attended the scene of many thousands of accidents.

The Robertsons regularly receive thank you letters from people that they have helped on their way, and have received Christmas cards each year since 1958 from a family that they hauled out of a car on the Clyde Mountain.

NRMA Motoring & Services President Alan Evans said this week, "the Robertson family has provided tireless service to NRMA members for almost half a century. There is no greater sight for a stranded motorist then the flashing yellow lights of an NRMA patrol van. The Robertsons have been there for motorists on thousands of occasions."

"We thank them for their hard work and wish them the best for the future." Mr Evans said.
