Singer, performer and poet, Wendy McMahon-Bell, will launch a book of poetry by Jeremy Nelson with drawings by John R Walker at The Serrated Tussock Cafe on Friday 2 February from 6pm. Produced in a collector's edition of 300, each book is numbered and signed by the author and artist. Copies will be on sale for $25 each at the launch. Robin Marsden, literary scholar and friend of Jeremy's recently wrote:
"Winter Crow...is a beautifully executed collaboration between a writer and an artist... A reminder that we must heed, of what has happened lately and too soon in the world we are still privileged to inhabit. We need to let the Winter Crow's stark images enter our lives. There is a moment left when the work of our artists, our poets, our painters, our composers is still capable of demanding our limited attention. Words and drawings, as in this collaboration, may together succeed in persuading us...to look beyond ourselves...There is a grave and awful beauty in this book that arrests, demanding that we stand still and simply contemplate cruelty. Jeremy's poems with John's drawings are new psalms for the age we must fear to lose."
Other publications of Jeremy's include the collections City of Man, Diagrams of Paradise, Visions and Revisions and his online publications can be found at:www.jeremynelson.bigpondhostin g.com. The drawings reproduced in this poetry book were selected from one of John R Walker's Chinese books, painted in response to Jeremy's poems. This book is now in the collection of Australian artist, Savanhdary Vongpoothorn, herself a child refugee from war-torn Laos.
