Locals show form on race day

Saturday was a perfect weather day for the annual Braidwood Cup, this year sponsored by the Braidwood Servicemen's Club. With a good track the larger than usual crowd were buoyed by the two local wins in the first two races in the six race card.

Local trainer Reg Webb took out Race 1, the Maiden Plate over 1600m won by Red Kala with a margin of 6 Lengths, and ridden by Kevin Sweeney.

Race 2, the Nolan Memorial Maiden Handicap over 1000m was won by Rocky Cobra trained by Neale Lavis, ridded by Gary Williams.

The Cameron Jackson Memorial Class 2 Handicap over 1000m was won by Cha Cha's Angel, trained by Nick Olive, and ridden by Michael Travers.

Race 4, the Braidwood Builders & Subbies Class 1 Handicap over 1350m was taken out by BIG HEAD, Trained by Ian Finn, ridden by Kevin Sweeney.

The main event Race 5, the Braidwood Servicemens Club Braidwood Cup over 1350m, was won by Valley Warrior trained by Lynda Bundy from Moruya, ridden by apprentice Melissa Vivian, by three lengths to Linga Longa followed by Waggawina.

As the sea breeze started to cool things off, in Race 6, the Braidwood Associated Agents Class 3 Handicap over 1350, Jockey Michael Travers took home another win with He's Ian, trained by Michael Britton, In front of Dancing Bureaucrat and Tequila Gold.

With the presence of Sky Racing cameras, Fashions On The Field drew a larger than usual number of entrant and was conducted on the course. Footage will be replayed on Thursday morning on Austar.
