Following two sell out shows at Altenburg Gallery, a new exhibition by Lucinda Boyd, titled 'River's Edge' will open this Friday.
The works have been developed from studies executed on the banks of the Shoalhaven River near Braidwood. The drawings are pastel and conte on paper, and charcoal and graphite on paper.
Lucinda layers her work using methods she has developed over many years creating depth, mood, warmth and movement in her landscapes. Her works are hauntingly beautiful capturing the familiar reality of her local environment - her grasses wave in the breeze beside massive rock faces along the Shoalhaven River and below the twisted ancient canopy of the gums and native bushes narrow animal pathways disappear into the background and you feel you would like to follow...
Lucinda Boyd was born in England and spent her childhood travelling around Europe with her parents before returning with them to live in Australia in 1972. In 1997 Lucinda moved to the Braidwood district.
The diversity of landscape, distinct seasons and the quality of light have been the inspiration for her work. River's Edge has been produced from studies done at the Bombay Reserve on the Shoalhaven River near Braidwood. This locality has provided generations of locals with a wonderful picnic and swimming area and has given Lucinda and no doubt many other artists a deep sense of the river's tranquillity.
Lucinda Boyd's work is held in private and corporate collections across Australia, in the UK, France and the USA.
