It was the first meeting under the new timetable of monthly meetings, however the start time had to be put back from 2pm to noon due the heavy workload. It was 11pm before Council went in to closed session to deal with some in-confidence issue. There were ten minute breaks each two hours.
Another meeting to deal with the remainder of the Business Paper will be held next Monday.
The backlog of items was caused partly by the elections, and staff not wanting to load too many items into the first meeting of the new councillors last month.
The exhausting meeting started with citizenship ceremonies, and included controversial matters of kerb and guttering in Bungendore, the auditors report, the location of future meetings, amendments to the code of meeting practice and nine development applications.
Mayor Ian Marjeson had to leave the chair at 4pm for a prior appointment, and Deputy Mayor Catherine Moore took the Chair.
It was resolved that the monthly meetings of council would be held three times per year in Braidwood, with the rest in Bungendore, with the flexibility to hold meetings in other locations as was required. The meetings will now start at 5pm.
The Auditor presented the Council finances concluding that Palerang was now ‘looking viable’.
A rescission motion put by Crs Crozier, Marjeson and Raynolds, in favour of an Energy Conservation Policy, was not successful with the vote 4-4 (Cr Miller was absent), so the status quo was maintained.
Stop Press. Council has called an Extraordinary Meeting for Monday, 17 November 2008, commencing at 5.00pm in the Bungendore Chambers.
The agenda will comprise those items of business not dealt with at the last Ordinary Meeting on 6 November, together with any notices of motion/rescission motions received by Monday, 10 November.
