Margaret Royds awarded OAM

Mrs Margaret de Bohun ROYDS, of Bedervale was awarded an OAM ( Order of Australia Medal in the General Division) on Australia Day for service to the community of Braidwood, particularly through the preservation of historic properties and the promotion of tourism. She was the only person in the postal area to receive an Australia Day Honour.

As Owner/Manager of Bedervale Historic Home, Margaret, with husband Roger, restored the building and catalogued the collection and library. She has been a Member, National Trust of Australia since 1962, a Foundation Member of the Braidwood and District Historical Society and was involved in the restoration of the museum and Bunn's Cottage.

Margaret organised the inaugural Heritage Day in 1980, and Chaired the 2002 Heritage Day celebration, is Convenor/Member, Braidwood Old Cemetery Committee, since 1985 and continues to carry out work on the Cemetary. Currently, Margaret also volunteers at the Braidwood Visitor Information Office.

Other community involvement includes; President, Braidwood Branch, Country Women's Association, 1991-1994; Publicity Officer, 1998; Cultural Officer, 1998; International Officer, 1996; Member 1982-2004. Member, Parish Council, St Andrews Anglican Church, Braidwood 1986-1988; Member, Finance Committee, 1988-2001; Member many years. Founding Member, Braidwood and District Chamber of Commerce, since mid 1950s; Founding Member, Braidwood Tourism Association, since 1956; Member, Braidwood Show Society, since 1955; current stewardess and exhibitor, for many years; Founding and current Member, Braidwood Garden Club;

Current Member, Braidwood and District Economic Development Working Committee; Current Member, Braidwood FM Community Radio.

Member, Willing Workers on Organic Farms, since 1999; Member, Involvement Volunteers and International Agricultural Exchange Association; Provided farm holidays for international volunteers since 1979.

Maragaret's previous Awards include: Tallanganda Shire Citizen of the Year, Australia Day 2004 and Voluntary Service Medallion, National Trust, 2002. Congratulations Margaret.
