Professor Anthony Crothers Milner, of 'Maybrook', Braidwood has been awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the Queens Birthday Honours for service to education in the field of Asian studies as an academic and author, and to international relations through the development of cross-cultural education and outreach activities.
Milner has been the Basham Professor of Asian History, Australian National University, since 1994 and has held senior academic posts in Australia, Japan, Germany, Singapore, USA and the UK.
His publications include, The Invention of Politics: Expanding the Public Sphere in Colonial Malaya, Australia in Asia, 1996-1998, and Karajaan: Malay Political Culture on the Eve of Colonial Rule.
Professor Milner is also a member of numerous Councils, Boards and Societies, Convenor of the Asian Perceptions Retreat, held annually in Canberra, and Editor of Asian Studies Review. He is a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, American Association of Asian Studies, and Royal Asiatic Society, London. Professor Milner is currently in Japan.
Bungendore resident the Honourable Barry Cohen, was also awarded an AM for service to the Australian Parliament and to the community through a range of cultural and environmental roles and contributions to public discussion and debate.
