‘Milo’ coming our way

Damian Rice will be returning to old stomping grounds in more ways than one when he tackles the title role in Theatre South’s production of Milo, Ned Manning’s critically acclaimed play about life on the land.

The production will play at the National Theatre in Braidwood on Thursday, May 24 at 8.00 pm.

Damian Rice was last seen by Theatre South audiences in the sell-out season of Debra Oswald’s Dags in 1992. Since that time Damian has been busy working in both theatre and television. He was most recently seen in Channel 7’s All Saints and was a regular for many seasons on the popular ABC series, G.P. Other television credits include Water Rat”, Blue Heeler”, Above the Law and Fire II.

According to director, Aarne Neeme, Milo “examines mid-life crises, the predicament of today’s farmers, and the need to adapt, change and develop in both relationships and careers, in order to survive. Dealing with adversity requires both new approaches and the will to carry them out. Complacency, fatalism or clinging to tradition can be the greatest hindrances.”

Damian is supported on stage by a top notch cast of experienced actors, including Kelly Butler, Craig Elliott and Shayne Francis. Set design is by Mark Viner with lighting by Martin Kinnane. Mark Viner has just recently taken up a position with the Museum of Sydney after a long term stint as Regional Development Officer for the Southern Tablelands Regional Arts Program.
