Minister visits to discuss Water Inquiry

15 Feb, 2008 09:34 AM
NSW Water Utilities Minister Nathan Rees will meet council representatives in Braidwood today during a tour of Regional NSW as part of the Iemma Government's inquiry into Country Water Utilities.

Mr Rees is planning to inspect the Braidwood Sewerage Treatment Plant as part of his visit. Mr Rees said "there is no 'Macquarie St' solution to these challenges rather the Government is looking to councils and communities to be the drivers of this process."

"If councils come forward with the models that will guarantee the long term safety, security and sustainability of country drinking water and sewerage services, while preserving councils' revenue streams, jobs and skills base - then the Government will back the proposals with funds.

The inquiry discussion paper is available at www.dwe.nsw.gov.au Submissions due by 4th April.
